MOBILE, Ala. - On Saturday, Mar. 26, the University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team returned to the home sands of the UM Sand Volleyball courts for two matches, one against conference foe, Loyola University (La.). The Rams battled LaGrange College early Saturday morning and swept the Panthers, 5-0. Mobile carried momentum of the team's 5-0 sweep over LaGrange to another 5-0 sweep over Loyola later that afternoon. Mobile's two wins improves the overall team record on the 2022 schedule to 13-6 and snaps a two-match losing streak.
Match #1 - MOBILE 5, LaGrange 0
In match one, the top three seeds for Mobile earned 2-0 victories. Abby Andrews and Brinkley Hearn was awarded the No. 1 seed in Mobile's match against LaGrange and won, 21-8, 21-15. The second-seeded pair of Layton Adams and Aspen Adams dominated with a 21-12, 21-5 win and Mobile's third seed of Madison Bergeron and Jordan Wood cruised to a 21-10, 21-8 win to seal the match for the Rams. The four and five seeded matches were forfeit victories in favor of Mobile, earning the Rams a 5-0 match win.
Match #2 - MOBILE 5, Loyola (La.) 0
Later in the afternoon, Mobile played Loyola (La.) in hopes for a two-win day. Mobile Head Coach Jon Campbell awarded the top seed in the lineup to Layton Adams and Aspen Adams for the first time this season and the duo earned a 21-14, 21-18 win. Mobile's normal one-seeded pair of Abby Andrews and Brinkley Hearn got the nod from the second slot in the lineup and also won in two sets, 21-12, 21-12.
In the third flight, Danielle Pote and Haley Jones put together a hard fought three-set win over their opponents. Pote and Jones took the first set 21-19 and dropped the second set, 15-21. In set three, Mobile's third-seeded pair claimed victory with a 15-12 final.
Madison Bergeron and Jordan Wood looked great in the fourth-seeded match against the Wolf Pack, winning in straight sets, 21-6, 21-15. Finally, Melea Meadows and Veronica Makovey wrapped up the match with a three-set battle against Loyola as numerous fans gathered to witness. Meadows and Makovey took set one 21-16, but allowed Loyola to win set two in extras, 23-21. In the third and final set, it was all Mobile and Meadows and Makovey won 15-6 to earn the second sweep of the day for the Rams.
Additionally, a sixth-seeded match was played on Saturday afternoon that did not count on the final scoresheet. Head coach Jon Campbell awarded Olivia Jackson and Emma Todd the start in the sixth slot of the lineup as the pair won in straight sets against Loyola's six seed, 21-8, 21-11.
The Rams are scheduled to wrap up the regular season with three matches at home next weekend across two days. Mobile is scheduled to face Warner University on Friday, Apr. 1 at 10:00 a.m. CT and will play two matches the following day on Saturday, Apr. 2. On that Saturday, the Rams will face Webber International at 10:00 a.m. CT and later Southeastern University at 3:00 p.m. CT. All three matches are conference matches as part of the Sun Conference Central Tournament.
