2022 Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Set to Begin Friday; Seven Rams Earn Sun Conference All-Academic Honors

Rams Set to Compete for First Conference Title as No. 5 Seed in Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Tournament

MIAMI, Fla. - The 2022 Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Championship begins on Friday, April 8, as six teams battle for this year's league crown. In just their second year as a sponsored sport and first year as a member of the Sun Conference, the University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team earned the fifth-seed of the conference tournament with a 14-8 overall record and 5-4 conference record, and will compete for the first conference championship in program history. 
 
Hosted by Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Fla., this year's Sun Beach Volleyball Championship will open up with two quarterfinal matches on Friday, April 8, featuring the University of Mobile (No. 5 seed) versus William Carey (No. 4 seed), and Southeastern (No. 3 seed) versus St. Andrews (No. 6 seed).

Webber International (No. 1 seed) and Ave Maria (No. 2 seed) earned first-round byes and will await the winners of the quarterfinal contests. The Warriors will take on the winner of the UM/WCU contest while the Gyrenes await the winner of SEU/SAU.
 
The semifinals and finals are set for Saturday, April 9. 
 
 
Quarterfinals - Friday, April 8
  • Game 1: #4 William Carey vs. #5 Mobile (Ala.) - 3:00 PM (ET)
  • Game 2: #3 Southeastern vs. #6 St. Andrews - 5:00 PM (ET)
Semifinals - Saturday, April 9
  • Game 3: Game 1 winner vs. #1 Webber International - 9:00 AM (ET)
  • Game 4: Game 3 winner vs. #2 Ave Maria - 11:00 AM (ET)
Championship – Saturday, April 9
  • Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner - 30 minutes following the conclusion of the semifinals

Additionally, the Sun Conference named its 2022 Beach Volleyball All-Academic Team, sponsored by Barnes & Noble College on Wednesday afternoon, Apr. 6. The University of Mobile saw seven student-athletes selected, more than any other team in the conference. 
 
Qualifications for the honor are:
  • The student must have been enrolled for two full semesters or more
  • The student must have a cumulative of at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.
