Mobile's Quest for Sun Conference Title Cut Short in Quarterfinals on Friday

Rams Fall to Crusaders in Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Quarterfinals

AVE MARIA, Fla. - The University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team earned the fifth seed in the 2022 Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament and faced off with William Carey University, the fourth seed of the tourney, on Friday afternoon in Ave Maria, Fla. Throughout the 2022 season, Mobile and William Carey played a total of four matches against each other, with both teams winning two matches each. On Friday, the Crusaders came out on top to advance to the semifinals in the conference tournament, sending the Rams home to Mobile early.

William Carey claimed a 3-0 win over Mobile in the quarterfinals, with two matches going unfinished. In the first flight of Friday afternoon's match, Layton Adams and Aspen Adams fell in straight sets to William Carey's first-seeded duo. The Adams sisters were head coach Jon Campbell's second-seeded pair for much of the season, claiming the top seed in the lineup just recently.

Abby Andrews and Brinkley Hearn won the first set over the Crusaders from the second flight, but allowed William Carey to force three sets and eventually win the match. Mobile's four seed of Madison Bergeron and Jordan Wood fell in straight sets to give William Carey the win.

Due to William Carey claiming three match victories, the third-seeded match featuring Haley Jones and Danielle Pote and fifth-seeded match featuring Melea Meadows and Veronica Makovey did not finish.

The Rams will make their way home to Mobile, Ala. with just two remaining matches on the 2022 season. Mobile is scheduled to play in the AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Tournament in Tavares Beach, Fla. on Apr. 14-15. Times and opponents are TBA.
