MACON, Ga. - The University of Mobile Softball team saw their current 34-game win streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon after Middle Georgia State managed a walk-off victory at home in Macon, Ga. This year's softball team at Mobile has officially set the new all-time program record in consecutive wins with 34 games, a feat that is seventh best all-time in the NAIA. Following the team's first loss of the season, the Rams won game two of Saturday's doubleheader over Middle Georgia State, earning a 10-2 run-rule victory in six innings.
Game One Recap - (3) Mobile 8, Middle Georgia State 9
In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Rams were up 6-3 halfway through the game over the Knights. However, Middle Georgia managed to put together a four-run fourth inning to take the lead over Mobile. Down two runs going into the final inning, Mobile scored two runs to tie the game at eight runs a piece. Unfortunately for Mobile though, Middle Georgia State drove in the game-winner in the bottom half of the seventh to earn the walk-off victory and hand the third-ranked Rams their first loss of the 2022 season.
Both Eila Infante and Courtney Ellzey finished with three hits and three RBIs each in the game one loss, as Avery Johnston was hit with the loss from the pitcher's circle.
Game Two Recap - (3) Mobile 10, Middle Georgia State 2 (6 Innings)
In the second game Saturday afternoon in Macon, Ga., the Rams avenged their first loss on the year with a run-rule victory in six innings. Mobile scored four runs across the first two innings and did not allow a Knight to cross the plate until the fourth where Middle Georgia scored their only two runs of the game.
Mobile had a 9-2 lead going into the sixth and needed just one run to end the game early. Eila Infante managed to score that one run to end the game as Infante finished game two 3-for-4 at the plate and finished Saturday all together with six hits in seven at-bats against Middle Georgia State.
Caitlin McRee recorded three RBIs in the victory, as both Kaylee Pullin and Ashlyn Stewart recorded two RBIs each. Mobile out-hit Middle Georgia State 15-2 in the second game.
From the circle, Brinkley Goff pitched another complete game for the win, allowing just four hits and two runs, while striking out five.
The No. 3 Rams now have a 35-1 overall record with a 17-1 SSAC record, and will return to action on the road this upcoming Thursday with a doubleheader against Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala. Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. CT on Thursday.
