MOBILE, Ala. - It has been a saturated start to the 2022 season for the University of Mobile Men's and Women's Soccer programs, as rainfall in the Mobile, Ala. area over the last week has forced a total of six cancellations or venue changes at the start of the year. On Thursday, Aug. 25, the University of Mobile Athletic Department and head women's soccer coach Brian Person officially announced that the women's soccer match featuring Mobile and the visiting Thomas University (Ga.) has changed venues to Sage Park in Mobile, Ala. The location change is the second-straight to start the year for Person and the Rams, as Mobile will now play on a turf field at Sage Park for the first time since the 2019 season.
The UM Women's Soccer team was originally set to open the 2022 campaign with two home matches at the Jungle on the University of Mobile campus before playing five-straight road matches from Aug. 28 - Sept. 10. However, weather has forced Mobile Head Coach Brian Person to change locations for both home matches in a one-week span. Mobile fell to rival Spring Hill 1-0 last weekend after the match was moved to the Badgers' home field. Now, Mobile will play their first NAIA competition of the season against Thomas University at a local park in Mobile, Ala. Sage Park is located approximately 15 minutes south of the University of Mobile.
Kickoff for the Mobile v. Thomas match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Aug. 26. Due to the location change, broadcast/video will not be available. Live stats will be available and can be viewed at https://umobilerams.com/sidearmstats/wsoc/summary.
For any questions or more information about this weekend's location change for women's soccer, please contact University of Mobile Director of Sports Information David Haney at dhaney@umobile.edu.
