TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team returned to conference play on Tuesday, Jan. 3 with an evening game in Tuscaloosa, Ala. against Stillman College. Mobile fell to the Tigers of StillmanĀ 65-39, snapping the Rams' four-game winning streak. Tuesday's 26-point loss to Stillman is the largest margin of defeat during the 2022-23 season and drops Mobile's current overall record to 7-9. Additionally, Mobile's conference record falls to 3-3.
Forgettable Loss for the Rams
During the tough defeat for Mobile, both teams struggled immensely in the first half, with neither team scoring over 10 points at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers had the edge following the first 10 minutes, outscoring Mobile, 8-4. Ten minutes later, Stillman managed to add 14 points to increase their total to 22 points at halftime. Meanwhile, Mobile was held to seven points in the second quarter, scoring just 11 in the first half.Ā
In the second half, struggles continued for Mobile as Stillman found an offensive surge. Mobile scored 14 points in the third quarter, but Stillman ran away with things by scoring 24 points in the quarter alone. The Tigers later added 19 more points in the final 10 minutes, while holding Mobile to 14 more points in the fourth. Mobile's 39 total points is the lowest score in a game this year for the Rams.Ā
As a team, Mobile shot 22% from the floor, making just 11 baskets. Additionally, the Rams made two of 18 three-point attempts, while committing 21 turnovers. One positive for Mobile was the Rams shooting 15-for-18 from the free throw line, good for a 79% line. On the individual side, MacKenzie White led Mobile with 14 points and 10 rebounds, good for her first double-double of the season. White's 14 points is her second-highest total this season. She was followed by Carlee Wyatt who tallied both of Mobile's made three-pointers from off the bench in the loss, finishing the gameĀ with six points.Ā
Tough Loss in Rearview; Looking Ahead
Mobile will look to shake off Tuesday's loss to Stillman and will see action at home in Pharr Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7 for the next game on the schedule. The Rams will host Faulkner University in a conference game on Saturday, with first tip being set for 12:00 p.m. CT.
