Rams Come Away with Impressive Road Sweep Over Stillman on Saturday

Mobile Gets Back in Win Column with Strong Victory Over Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - After dropping the last two conference matches on the 2023 schedule, the University of Mobile Volleyball team bounced back nicely on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 28, managing a sweep on the road over the Stillman College (Ala.) Tigers. Mobile dominated the winless Stillman team over the weekend, winning each set by at least 12 points.

The win for Mobile improves the conference record to 8-5, while the overall record this season moves to 16-8. The Rams have just two matches remaining on the regular season portion of the schedule.

Match Recap: All Mobile in Tuscaloosa

With a limited travel team, Mobile opened Saturday's match with a convincing 25-6 set one victory, setting the tone of the match. Mobile came away with 17 kills alone without an attack error across the first set, while Stillman could only tally two. The Tigers did manage to improve some in the second set, but Mobile continued to prove why they were the heavy favorites entering Saturday, ending the set with a 25-12 win. Stillman doubled their kill totals to four in the second, while Mobile crushed 14 kills.

In the third and final set, Mobile won, 25-8. Like set two, the Rams tallied 14 kills in the final set, ending the match with 45 kills total. Mobile hit .396 as a team, tallying just nine attack errors. For Stillman, the Tigers ended the match with a hitting percentage right at .000, recording nine kills and nine attack errors.

Sophomore Corrina Porch-Maxey continued to lead Mobile offensively in the win, being the only player to record double-digit kill totals. Porch-Maxey ended the match with 10 kills off a .350  hitting percentage. Kendel Lee Frazer followed Porch-Maxey with nine kills off a .500 hitting line and sophomore Emily Osborne notched a season-high seven kills in Saturday's match, hitting .400 in the process. Mobile Head Coach Jon Campbell saw seven players on the Mobile roster hit above .350 in the victory over Stillman.

In the 6-2 ran offense, both Layton Adams and Tatum Beech tallied 16 assists a piece, with Adams adding six kills and three service aces. Beech added seven defensive digs to her assist total and two aces. The Rams were led by Aspen Adams with four aces in the win, recording 14 total as a team. 

On the defensive side, Lexi Gillette led all players with 10 digs, followed by Beech. Rachel Dunaway collected six digs as Mobile's defense finished the match with 38 digs and two blocks.

Two Home Matches Left

With the road portion of the regular season officially in the books, the Rams are set to return home for two final matches. Mobile is set to host UT-Southern (Tenn.) on Friday night, Nov. 3 at 6:00 p.m. CT, while hosting Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) in the regular season finale the following day at 1:00 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played in Pharr Gymnasium.
