Rams Take Down Undefeated Conference Rival; Improves to 8-1 on Season

Mobile Edges Out William Carey Tuesday Evening in Pharr Gymnasium

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team improved to 8-1 overall on the 2023-24 season on Tuesday evening, Nov. 28, defeating conference rival William Carey University (Miss.) 64-55 in the process. Mobile's win over the Crusaders snapped a 6-0 start to the season that the Crusaders have put together, while keeping the Rams undefeated in conference play this season at 3-0.

Mobile's 8-1 start has taken many by notice, with Mobile having a chance to begin receiving votes for the NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' Poll if the hot start under first-year head coach Sydney Westry continues. 

Game Recap: Mobile Too Strong For Crusaders

Tuesday's game opened with Mobile outscoring William Carey 18-13 through the first quarter of the game. Mobile's Braylee McMath put up a monster quarter to open the game, recording 12 points off four made three-pointers in the first 10 minutes. The Rams made a total of five threes in the first alone.

In the second quarter, the two conference rivals each tallied 16 points and went to halftime with Mobile leading the Crusaders, 34-29. Alanna Donaldson led the Rams with eight points in the second quarter after scoring five in the first. Donaldson managed 13 points through the first half, while Mobile as a team made 12 total shots from the floor.

Out of halftime, Mobile put together a 15-3 run through the first five minutes of the third quarter, eventually outscoring the Crusaders 19-11 ahead of the final 10 minutes of the ballgame. Alanna Donaldson once again led the charge in the quarter for Mobile, recording six points. In the final quarter, William Carey began cutting into the deficit, but the strong third quarter for Mobile proved to be the difference as the Rams came away with the nine-point win, 64-55. 

Donaldson recorded a career-high 23 points in the victory for Mobile, adding a team-high three steals. Additionally, Donaldson came away with four rebounds and four assists, while shooting 8-for-14 from the floor in Tuesday's game. Braylee McMath finished the win with 14 points, and Miriam Oldarcre scored 12 points in 19 minutes of playing time. The Rams finished the win with a 41.5% shooting percentage, making a total of 22 shots.

Headed to Georgia

Following the impressive win over conference rival William Carey, Mobile is set to face Point University (Ga.) in the first conference meeting in history between the two programs. Mobile's game versus Point is scheduled for this upcoming Saturday, Dec. 2 in West Point, Ga., with start time set for 11:00 a.m. CT.
