University of Mobile Beach Volleyball Opens Conference Play with 2-1 Weekend

Rams Finish 2-1 in SUN Conference South Pod Tournament

KENNER, La. - The University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team began conference play over the weekend, finishing 2-1 in the SUN Conference's South Pod Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25 in southern Louisiana. Mobile began the tournament with two matches on Friday, grabbing two wins, but fell in the weekend finale on Saturday.

On the season, the Rams have managed a 3-4 overall record and are now 2-1 in SUN Conference play.

Matchups/Overall Results

On Friday morning, Mobile faced off with St. Thomas University (Fla.) and scored a 3-2 victory. The top three flights in Mobile Head Coach Jon Campbell's lineup came up with wins, with the second and third-seeded pairs of Abby Andrews and Brinkley Hearn (2), and Haley Jones and Danielle Pote (3) earning 2-0 sweeps. Mobile's top seed of Aspen Adams and Layton Adams won their match, 2-1.

Later that afternoon, Mobile built on the team's 3-2 win earlier in the day, defeating Florida Memorial University, 4-1. Despite the Rams seeing the top flight of the Adams sisters fall 2-1, Mobile bounced back with 2-0 sweeps from flights two through five. In day one, both the second and third flights for Mobile totaled four-straight set wins, while never losing a set.

On Saturday, Mobile eventually suffered the first conference loss of the season, dropping the tournament finale to Ave Maria University (Fla.), 3-2. Mobile's two lone wins came from the bottom of the lineup as Jordan Wood and Tatum Beech scored a 2-1 victory from the fourth flight. Later, Mobile's fifth-seeded pair of Lexi Gillette and Emily Osborne won their match, 2-1. Ave Marie managed to win the first three matches in the lineup, grabbing two sweeps in the process.


Gulf Shores Tournament

UM Beach Volleyball will be back in action in one week, partaking in the annual Gulf Shores Beach Tournament. Mobile will play six total non-conference matches over the course of the three-day tournament, highlighted by a match with NCAA Division I opponent, the University of Nebraska on Mar. 4 at 10:30 a.m. CT

The Gulf Shores Tournament is scheduled for Mar. 2-4 in Gulf Shores, Ala., with Mobile opening their portion of the tournament on Mar. 2 at 12:00 p.m. CT against crosstown rival Spring Hill College.
