UM Baseball Concludes Home Portion of 2023 Schedule

Rams Drop Second-Straight Conference Series on Saturday at Jacobs Field

JACOBS FIELD, MOBILE, Ala. - After a tough weekend on the road in Hattiesburg, Miss. last week where the University of Mobile Baseball team dropped three games to conference rival William Carey, the Rams returned home over the weekend for the final three games of the season at Jacobs Field on Apr. 21-22. Mobile, ranked No. 9 in the latest NAIA Baseball Top 25 rankings, hosted Talladega College for a three-game series to conclude the home portion of the 2023 schedule, winning game one on Friday night in run-rule fashion, 10-0. On Saturday, Talladega answered back with a doubleheader sweep over Mobile, handing the Rams their second-straight conference series loss.

On the season, Mobile now has a 29-11 overall record and are currently sitting in a three-way tie for second in the SSAC Baseball standings with a 14-7 conference record. Following Saturday's doubleheader, eight graduating seniors were honored for Senior Day.

Series Highlights

Game One - Fri. 4/21 - Mobile 10, Talladega 0 - 7 Innings
  • In the series opener, Mobile dominated with a 10-0 victory in seven innings.
  • Mobile starting pitcher Kyle White tossed a complete-game shutout over the Tornadoes on Friday, allowing just three hits and striking out four.
  • Offensively, the Rams scored in all but two innings against Talladega, led by Landon Moore with three hits and Sam Bowman with two RBIs.
  • Mobile outhit the Tornadoes in game one 14-3, with every player in the starting lineup recording at least one hit.
Game Two - Sat. 4/22 - Talladega 13, Mobile 10 - 12 Innings
  • Mobile took a three-run lead to the final inning where Talladega eventually tied the game to force extra innings.
  • The Tornadoes pushed across six runs in the top of the 12th inning to take a commanding lead.
  • Mobile answered with three runs in the bottom of the 12th, but the comeback fell short. 
  • Errors haunted Mobile defensively as the team committed five total errors, with seven of Talladega's 13 runs being unearned on the Mobile pitching staff.
  • Tucker Musgrove led Mobile with two hits and two RBIs, while Trevor Wells finished 1-for-3 with three walks and two runs scored. 
  • Talladega managed to outhit Mobile 16-8 in Saturday's first game, which surpassed four total hours. 
Game Three - Sat. 4/22 - Talladega 10, Mobile 6 - 7 Innings
  • Mobile and Talladega traded the lead in each over the first three innings, with the Tornadoes having the edge 8-5 after the third.
  • Talladega added two runs in the fifth, while the bullpen shut down the Mobile offense. 
  • The Rams mustered just one run over the last four innings to fall in the home finale.
  • Talladega outhit Mobile 11-10, and committed three errors compared to Mobile's one.
  • At the plate for Mobile, Samuel Plash finished 2-for-2 with two walks, while Trevor Wells finished 3-for-4 with an RBI 

Following the series loss, eight seniors (Trevor Andrews, Trevor Wells, Samuel Plash, Jack Treanor, Thomas James, Kyle White, Haden Parker, and Jeffrey Griffin) were celebrated for Senior Day in front of family and friends in attendance, while head coach Jon Seymour thanked fans for the support over the 2023 season at Jacobs Field. 


One Regular Season Series Left

Mobile is set to conclude the 2023 regular season this upcoming weekend, Apr. 27-28 with a three-game road series against the Faulkner Eagles in Montgomery, Ala. This weekend's series is slated to begin with one game on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. CT, and will conclude on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT.
