UM Baseball Ends Regular Season Over the Weekend; Trevor Andrews Matches Program's Single-Season Home Run Record

Rams Set for SSAC Postseason as No. 3 Seed

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Mobile Baseball team concluded the 2023 regular season over the weekend, taking two of three games played on the road against Faulkner University on Apr. 28-29. No. 9 Mobile opened the weekend series with a doubleheader sweep on Friday, winning game one 14-8 in seven innings and 5-4 in the nightcap. However, Faulkner managed a victory over the ninth-ranked Rams in the regular season finale on Saturday, defeating Mobile in eight innings, 15-5. Mobile ends the 2023 regular season with a 31-12 overall record, while finishing conference play at 16-8 on the year.

During the series, senior Trevor Andrews notched four hits, two of which being home runs to tie him with Christian Snow for the program's single-season home run record. Both Snow and Andrews totaled 16 homers in their respective years, with Andrews having a chance to break the record in the upcoming postseason. Currently, Andrews is batting .359 through 43 games this season, leading Mobile with his 16 home runs and 60 RBIs. Additionally, he is leading Mobile in walks (33) and slugging percentage (.782).

Series Highlights
  • Mobile totaled 37 hits across the three-game series, 20 hits coming in game one alone where every starter recorded at least one hit.
  • In game one, shortstop Sam Bowman finished 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs, while Tucker Musgrove, Trevor Wells, and Landon Moore all finished with three hits.
  • The top five batters in the lineup combined to finish 14-for-22 at the plate in the series opener.
  • In game two, Mobile survived a late comeback by Faulkner to win by one run.
  • The Rams relied on a three-run fourth inning where Trevor Andrews blasted his record-tying home run.
  • Andrews later earned the save on the mound in game two as Mobile sent five pitchers to the mound to combine for seven hits allowed.
  • In the series finale, Faulkner managed back-to-back big innings to open the game up 14-2 through five innings.
  • The Rams finished with just five runs off eight hits as the Eagles managed a game-ending run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the run-rule victory.

SSAC Baseball Tournament

With Mobile's 2-1 weekend against the Faulkner Eagles in the books, the Rams have solidified themselves as the No. 3 seed in the upcoming SSAC Baseball Championship Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss. The tournament is slated for Wednesday, May 3 through Saturday, May 6 at William Carey University, with Mobile scheduled to face the sixth-seeded Eagles of Faulkner to open the tournament.

Mobile and Faulkner will meet on Wednesday for a 1:00 p.m. CT showing, with the winner advancing to face the winner of the Talladega v. Brewton-Parker game. Loser will fall into the losing bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
