Rams Hold Talladega College Scoreless for Third Win of Season

THE JUNGLE SOCCER COMPLEX | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team returned home to the Jungle on Friday evening, Sept. 1, hosting Talladega College (Ala.) in a rescheduled non-conference contest. Mobile and Talladega were originally slated to begin the 2023 season on Aug. 18, but saw the season opener postponed to Friday. Both programs have met just two times in history before Friday's meeting, with Mobile earning 12-0 and 9-0 victories over the Tornadoes. The Rams continued the shutout trend in Friday's match, scoring a 2-0 win over Talladega and improving to 3-1-0 on the season.

Match Recap: Rams Dominate Stat Sheet Over Talladega

Despite just two goals in the match, Mobile cruised past Talladega in Friday's match, totaling 49 shots across the full 90 minutes. Talladega's defenders and goalkeeper stayed busy all evening long, but managed to hold the Rams scoreless in the first half after defending 25 total shots through the first 45 minutes. In the second half, Mobile finally managed to produce a goal after sophomore Carla Saborido headed in her first goal of the season in the 69th minute. Saborido's header came off a perfect pass from Ashlyn Broussard who was credited with the assist.

Later in the second half, Mobile scored an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when Mobile newcomer Izzabella Payne rocketed a shot past the Talladega keeper, while using the post to notch her team-leading third goal of the season. Olivia Quiroz earned the assist on Payne's goal. From there, the Rams grabbed the 2-0 win over the Tornadoes.

Mobile out-shot Talladega 49-2, with Juliana Gomez securing two saves in the net during the shutout victory. Andi Hughes led all players with 11 shots taken in the match, six being on-goal, while Izzabella Payne recorded eight shots. Additionally, the Rams tallied 15 corner kicks, with Talladega only mustering one.
