UM Women's Soccer Blanks Blue Mountain in Thursday Meeting

Rams Shut Out the Toppers in First Conference Match at the Jungle

THE JUNGLE SOCCER COMPLEX | MOBILE, Ala. - After opening the conference portion of the 2023 schedule on the road last week, the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team returned home on Thursday, Sept. 21 and hosted Blue Mountain Christian University (Miss.) for the first SSAC matchup at the Jungle this year. Mobile came out strong against the Toppers on Thursday, dominating the shot differential and cruising to a 3-0 victory to improve to 5-2-2 overall this season. Additionally, the win propels Mobile's conference record in the SSAC to 2-0-1.

Match Recap: Quick Start Leads to Mobile Shutout

Mobile opened the scoring quickly in Thursday afternoon's matchup at the Jungle as Raegan Latiolais tallied the first goal of the match in the 11th minute. Latiolais' goal is her team-leading fifth goal of the year as the sophomore has scored in each of Mobile's last four matches played. The Rams added to their 1-0 lead just three minutes later as Andi Hughes notched her fourth goal of the season, with the assist coming from Latiolais. From there, Mobile took a 2-0 lead to halftime, finishing the first half with 15 total shots compared to Blue Mountain's two.

In the second half, the Rams added an insurance goal in the 77th minute as Madison Hager netted a deep shot from outside the box to the upper corner of the goal. The goal is Hager's first on the season. Izzabella Payne earned the assist on Hager's goal following a deflection from the Blue Mountain defense. Mobile eventually defeated the Toppers 3-0, allowing just one Blue Mountain shot in the final 45 minutes.

Overall, the Rams owned the box score, outshooting Blue Mountain, 27-3. Mobile saw 14 shots on target, with three going in. Mobile starting goalkeeper Juliana Gomez had a quiet night, ending the match without a save in the shutout win. All three of Blue Mountain's shots were off target.

Tough Task Ahead

Mobile is scheduled to return to action on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 23 with an unfavorable matchup against SSAC newcomer University of Tennessee Southern. UT-Southern ranks No. 5 in the NAIA and are 4-2-0 this season. Mobile will look for an upset win over the fifth-ranked Firehawks in Saturday's 1:30 p.m. CT match at the Jungle.
