MARIETTA, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team continued the impressive 2023-24 campaign on Wednesday evening, Jan. 10 with a 68-56 victory over Life University (Ga.), improving to a 16-2 overall on the season. The 16-2 start for the Rams is the best start in program history, with first-year head coach Sydney Westry leading the charge. In addition, Wednesday's win is Mobile's eighth-straight and keeps the Rams in sole possession of second place in the current SSAC Women's Basketball standings, sporting an 8-1 conference record.
Game Recap
Both Mobile and Life opened Wednesday's game with an evenly-played first quarter as both teams totaled a mid-40% shooting mark. Life made one more shot than Mobile in the first quarter, leading 14-12 entering the second. In the second quarter, the Rams tallied 14 points, but allowed Life 17 second-quarter points to trail 31-26 at the half.
Out of halftime, head coach Sydney Westry saw her team explode offensively in the opening quarter of the second half, with the Rams scoring 29 third-quarter points, making 11 shots from the floor. Mobile grabbed the lead with 6:27 left in the third, finishing the third with a 29-11 run. In the final 10 minutes of the game, Life outscored Mobile 14-13, but Mobile's strong third quarter proved to be the difference in the game. The Rams went on the win by 12 points.

Box Score Highlights
Erica Jones, the reigning four-time SSAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, notched her seventh double-double of the season against Life, finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the win. She shot 8-for-10 from the free throw line and added two blocks and one steal. Jones led all players in scoring on Wednesday.
Alanna Donaldson followed Jones' production with 15 points, picking up three assists, while Braylee McMath and MacKenzie White both finished with 11 points each. In total, only six Rams hit the scoreboard against the Running Eagles, finishing the game with a 50% shooting line. Mobile went 17-for-20 from the free throw line.
On Life's side, the Running Eagles shot 42% and turned the ball over 17 times. Mobile managed 20 points off turnovers and out-rebounded Life, 30-22.
Another Big Road Test Upcoming
Mobile is scheduled to return to action next Tuesday, Jan. 16, traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a conference game against rival William Carey University (Miss.). Next Tuesday's game is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and is the final regular season meeting between the two teams. The Rams knocked off William Carey 64-55 back on Nov. 28.
