THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team collected a 2-1 victory over Thomas University (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5, with the match being tabbed as the SSAC Women's Soccer Game of the Week. The victory is Mobile's third straight, with the overall record improving to 6-3-1 on the season and 4-1-0 in SSAC action. The Rams currently sit fourth in the SSAC Women's Soccer standings.
Hughes Propels Mobile to Win
After 15 minutes of scoreless action, Mobile put the first goal in the books in the 16th minute following Andi Hughes' fourth goal of the season. The Rams added five more shots in the first half against Thomas, while holding the Night Hawks to just three shots in the first 45 minutes. However, Hughes' goal was the only score in the first, with Mobile leading 1-0 at halftime.
At the start of the second half, Thomas made adjustments during the halftime break and notched an equalizer in just the 47th minute with a shot from outside of the box. The match remained tied 1-1 after 65 minutes, but saw Andi Hughes come up clutch with her second goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute. Hughes' fifth goal of the year came following a great pass from Raegan Latiolais, who earned the assist. Hughes' second score of the day eventually went down as the golden goal as Mobile survived late shots by Thomas and won the match, 2-1.
Mobile ended the day out-shooting the Night Hawks 14-10, with eight goals being recorded on target. Both Hughes and Latiolais paced the team with four shots a piece. Meanwhile, Thomas only finished with three shots-on-goal in the losing effort as Mobile starting goalkeeper Ebba Elweroth came up with two clutch saves.
SSAC Action on the Road
Mobile returns to play next Friday, Oct. 11 with a matchup against Dalton State College (Ga.) in Dalton, Ga., slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. CT. The Rams will then face Life University (Ga.) on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m. CT to conclude the weekend road trip. Both matches are conference games in the SSAC.
