Mobile Falls to Rival William Carey in SSAC Women's Basketball Game of the Week

Rams Unable to Capture Home Win Over Crusaders

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team suffered a tough loss against conference rival William Carey (Miss.) on Saturday, Nov. 23, falling 79-63 in Pharr Gymnasium in the SSAC Women's Basketball Game of the Week. The loss drops Mobile's overall record to 5-3 on the year, while falling to 1-2 in the SSAC.

Game Summary

Mobile kept the game competitive in the first half, trailing by just three points at halftime (31-28). A strong second-quarter effort, where they outscored William Carey 18-14, helped the Rams close the gap after a slow start. Mobile opened the second quarter with a 14-1 run. William Carey surged ahead in the second half, outscoring the Rams 18-12 in the third quarter and 30-23 in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders' bench contributed significantly, with 25 points compared to Mobile's 13 bench points.

Braylee McMath led Mobile with 21 points, shooting 9-for-21 from the field, including two three-pointers. MacKenzie White followed with an all-around performance with 18 points, five rebounds, three steals, and three assists, while Halle Verkerk ended Saturday with eight points and six boards from off the bench. As a team, Mobile shot only 31.4% from the floor and struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just five of 22 three-pointers (22.7%). William Carey had a strong showing in the paint, scoring 38 points and out-rebounding Mobile, 45-32. The Rams were led by Fatoumata Sonko with eight rebounds.

Road Trip Upcoming

Mobile hits the road for three consecutive games beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 26 where the Rams travel to New Orleans, La. for a non-conference meeting with Dillard University (La.). Tuesday's game is slated to tip off at 12:00 p.m. CT.
