ALEXANDRIA, La. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2024-25 season with a close 71-68 defeat on the road against LSU-Alexandria (La.) on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2 despite holding a 17-point lead midway through the second quarter. Mobile was unable to maintain its advantage over LSU-A in the second half as the Generals rallied for a fourth-quarter comeback over the Rams. The loss drops Mobile's overall record to 1-1 on the young season.
Game Summary
The Rams started Saturday's game strong, outscoring LSU-A 22-13 in the first quarter. However, the Generals found their rhythm in the second half, capitalizing on Mobile's turnovers to close the gap and ultimately pull ahead in the final moments. Mobile finished with a 38.2% shooting line from the field (26-for-68) and shot 28.1% from three-point range (9-for-32). The Rams held a slight advantage at the free-throw line, shooting 77.8% (7-for-9).
Mobile displayed balanced scoring in Saturday's contest, led by Braylee McMath with 14 points. Miriam Oldarcre and Lindi Debilzan followed, each contributing 13 points in the losing effort. To add, Debilzan had a strong showing on the boards, leading the team with nine rebounds in the three-point loss. The Rams' defense forced 15 steals, but three players fouled out in the final stretch, which hindered the chance to close out the game and capture a big road win over the Generals.
Meanwhile, LSU-A capitalized with a strong performance from the free-throw line, hitting 23 of 29 attempts. The home team was efficient from beyond the arc, hitting 44.4% of their three-point attempts (8-for-18) and finished with an overall 41.7 shooting percentage from the floor.
Back to Louisiana Next Week
Mobile is set to bounce back from Saturday's loss next week with another non-conference game in the state of Louisiana. The Rams are scheduled to face Southern University of New Orleans (La.) on Wednesday, Nov. 6, with tip-off occurring at 5:30 p.m. CT in the Big Easy.
