NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team secured a dominant victory over Southern University of New Orleans (La.) on Wednesday night, Nov. 6, cruising past the Knights by the final score of 94-54. The impressive 40-point win puts Mobile back over .500 on the young season, improving to 2-1 through three games. Meanwhile, SUNO remains winless through four games on the year.
Game Summary; Rams Relentless
Mobile led 21-9 at the end of the first quarter to start Wednesday's action, and continued to extend the lead throughout the rest of the game. The Rams led 44-25 at halftime, eventually building in each of the four quarters played. Mobile tallied 25 points each in both the third and fourth quarters. Meanwhile, SUNO never scored higher than 16 points in a quarter against Mobile.
MacKenzie White led the way for Mobile by matching a career-best 19 points on an 8-for-10 shooting line from the floor. She added four rebounds, three steals, and four assists. Newcomer Hannah Benoit contributed 16 points off the bench, while Braylee McMath notched 11 points and Verd Fontaine finished with six points. Overall, Mobile's bench accounted for 49 of the 94 points scored, showcasing the team's depth.
Defensively, Mobile forced 25 turnovers from SUNO and recorded 20 steals, allowing the Rams to control the tempo and capitalize on SUNO mistakes. Mobile also dominated the rebounding battle, with a 49-37 advantage, highlighted by Fontaine's eight rebounds.
SUNO struggled to find rhythm against Mobile's defense, shooting only 30.4% from the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Mobile finished just shy of 50% from the floor and made six three-pointers in the win.
Headed North
With a big win in their pocket, the Rams are set to return to action this Saturday, Nov. 9 with a non-conference game against Fisk University (Tenn.) in Nashville, Tenn. Saturday's game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT, with Mobile looking to improve to 2-0 all-time against the Bulldogs of Fisk.
