COCHRAN, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team cruised to a 26-point victory on Thursday evening, Feb. 8, defeating Middle Georgia State University 83-57 on the road. The win is Mobile's fourth consecutive victory on the season and sixth-straight over the Knights dating back to the 2019-20 season. The Rams improve to 21-4 overall on the year and 13-3 in the SSAC.
New Career-High for Erica Jones
Mobile's offense started slower than normal on Thursday evening, making just six total shots from the floor and finishing the first quarter with 14 points. Middle Georgia State also started slow, scoring four points less than the Rams off just four made shots. However, Mobile's offense came alive in the second quarter, managing 25 points in the quarter off a 9-for-13 shooting line. Both Erica Jones and Lindi Debilzan led the offensive charge for Mobile in the second, with both players scoring 11 points each. Meanwhile, the Mobile defense held the Knights to just 14 second-quarter points. The Rams led 39-24 at halftime.
In the second half, Mobile's offense continued to roll and scored a whopping 29 points across the third quarter. Jones added 13 more points to her game total, giving her 29 points through the first three quarters of the game. Middle Georgia State's offense added 18 points in the third, which eventually became the best quarter of the game for the Knights.
Through the final quarter of the game, both teams added 15 points each, with Mobile eventually earning the 83-57 win. Erica Jones scored six more points in the fourth as the senior finished with a career-high 35 points in the win. She shot 13-for-23 from the field, making eight of 12 free throw attempts. Jones added 12 rebounds to collect her eighth double-double of the season.
Lindi Debilzan followed Jones and picked up a season-high 13 points from off the bench on Thursday, making three three-pointers in 22 minutes of playing time and adding five assists. Braylee McMath ended the game with 11 points, and Alanna Donaldson finished with seven points and a team-high six assists in the victory. As a team, Mobile finished with 47% shooting percentage, while out-rebounding Middle Georgia State, 40-26.
Tough Test on Saturday
Mobile returns to action in Mount Vernon, Ga. on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10, facing Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) at 11:00 a.m. CT. Mobile defeated the Barons at home back in January. Brewton-Parker has received votes for entry in the NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 this season.
