Rams Swept by Blue Mountain in Weekend Series at Jacobs Field

Blue Mountain Records First-Ever Series Sweep Over Mobile

JACOBS FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - It was a weekend to forget for the University of Mobile Baseball team as the Rams fell to 5-10 on the season and 4-5 in SSAC play following three-straight losses to Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) at Jacobs Field across Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 9-10.

Blue Mountain opened the series with a 9-6 win in seven innings over Mobile in game one of a Saturday doubleheader, following that with a 12-5 victory in the nightcap. In the first game, Mobile opened the game with a five-run first inning, being kick-started by a leadoff home run from Bryce Eddington, but allowed the Toppers to respond with six runs alone in the second inning. In game two, the Rams once again dropped an early lead as Blue Mountain used two four-run innings to earn the doubleheader sweep.

On Sunday, the Toppers routed Mobile 18-2 in the series finale, eventually run-ruling the Rams in seven innings. Blue Mountain produced an 11-run seventh inning to end the game early and head home to Blue Mountain, Miss. Across the series, Blue Mountain relied heavily on designated hitter Peeko Townsend, who collected four home runs and 11 RBIs against the Mobile pitching staff.

For Mobile, the offense notched seven hits in game one, while recording four hits each as a team in games two and three. J.T. Lastorka paced Mobile with three runs driven in on the series, recording his first-career triple in the process. Bryce Eddington blasted his team-leading fifth home run, while extending his batting average to a team-high .372. Additionally, Cameron Brock and Sam Bowman joined Lastorka with multiple RBIs across the three games played, recording two a piece, and Trey Watson became the only pitcher to record more than four innings of work on the mound, finishing with 5 1/3 innings in game two. Head coach Kyle Friday was forced to use 12 arms against the Blue Mountain bats on the weekend.

SSAC Road Series Next

Mobile will be back in action next weekend, Mar. 15-16 for a three-game series against Brewton-Parker College (Ga.). Next weekend's series is scheduled to begin with a Friday doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. CT in Mount Vernon, Ga.
