Beach Volleyball Finishes 1-1 in SUN Conference Northeast Pod Tournament Over the Weekend

Rams Falls Below .500 in Conference Play Following 1-1 Showing in Weekend Tourney

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team competed in two conference matches at a neutral location over the weekend, batting St. Andrews University (N.C.) and Truett-McConnell University (Ga.) in the SUN Conference Northeast Pod Tournament on Friday, Mar. 15. The two conference matches were played at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. and comes after Mobile was swept in two games by NCAA D-II program Spring Hill College (Ala.) earlier in the week.

The Rams opened the regular season conference tourney with a 4-1 win over St. Andrews to get back into the win column, but later fell to the Bears of Truett-McConnell 3-2 in a close match. Mobile currently sits with a 4-6 overall record this season, while sitting just under .500 in SUN Conference action at 3-4.

The Basics

Mobile's top four pairs managed 2-0 wins over St. Andrews to kick off the weekend, with the team of Gabby Sheffield and Emma Hampton impressing with a 21-13, 21-7 victory from the third flight in the lineup. Mobile's top-seeded pair of Aspen Adams and Layton Adams collected a 21-16, 21-12 win over St. Andrews' top pair, while Lexi Gillette and Dazsha Dean cruised to a 21-14, 21-11 victory from the second flight. In the fourth-seeded match, Emma Todd and Jordan Wood won 21-17, 21-13. St. Andrews mustered a 21-15, 21-15 victory from the fifth flight to avoid the shutout to the Rams.

Later in the day, the Rams faced Truett-McConnell in a highly-contested match. Gabby Sheffield and Emma Hampton picked up where they left off and scored another 2-0 win from the third flight, defeating the opposition, 21-17, 21-13. Emma Todd and Jordan Wood notched Mobile's second point of the match with a 21-11, 21-15 win from the fourth-seeded match. From there, Truett-McConnell was able to put together three victories over Mobile, all via 2-0 wins, and score the 3-2 match victory.

Mobile's 1-1 showing over the weekend and 3-4 conference record puts the Rams in the middle of the pack in the current SUN Conference standings, with the team sitting in sixth place out of 11 teams.
