Rams Finish SUN Conference South Pod Tourney with 2-1 Weekend

Beach Volleyball Puts Together 2-1 Showing in South Florida Tournament

AVE MARIA, Fla. - The University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team moved back to .500 on the 2024 season over the weekend, finishing 2-1 in the SUN Conference South Pod Tournament in southwest Florida. Mobile faced three conference opponents during the two-day tournament, improving the conference record on the year to 2-3.

The Rams began play in this year's south pod tourney with a 4-1 win over St. Thomas University (Fla.) on Mar. 1 before dropping a 4-1 match to host-school Ave Maria University (Fla.) later that same day. The following day, Mobile concluded the tournament with another 4-1 win, this time defeating Florida Memorial University in the process.

South Pod Tournament Highlights / Notables

Mobile's top-seeded duo of Aspen Adams and Layton Adams finished 2-1 on the week from the top flight in each match, winning 21-7, 21-12 against the St. Thomas top seed and recording a 21-13, 21-8 victory over Florida Memorial's top pair the following day. Unfortunately for the Adams sisters, Ave Maria's top team came up with a 21-17, 21-17 win to prevent Mobile's No. 1 seed from a 3-0 weekend.

Mobile did see a 3-0 weekend from one of the team's flights at the SUN Conference South Pod Tournament, with Jordan Wood and Emma Todd winning all three matches played from the fourth flight in the lineup. Wood and Todd cruised against St. Thomas, winning 21-11, 21-13 before following that with a 21-17, 21-14 win against Ave Maria's fourth seed. The win over Ave Maria prevented the Rams from a shutout loss across the match. On the final day, Wood and Todd produced a 21-12, 21-15 win against Florida Memorial to record Mobile's only undefeated flight on the weekend.

The third flight (Emma Hampton / Gabby Sheffield) and fifth flight (Tatum Beech / Emily Osborne) in the Mobile lineup joined Aspen Adams and Layton Adams in recording a 2-1 weekend, while Mobile's No. 2 seed of Dazsha Dean and Lexi Gillette finished 1-2 in the weekend tournament.

The SUN Conference South Pod Tournament is Mobile's second conference tournament the team has competed in this year, with the Rams opening the season 0-2 in the northwest pod tourney in Kenner, La.
