TAVARES, Fla. - The 2024 season officially came to an end for the University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team over the weekend, with Mobile falling in the championship match of the 2024 AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Tournament on Apr. 13.
Mobile opened the annual AVCA tournament with two victories on Friday, Apr. 12, advancing to the semifinals scheduled for Saturday afternoon in central Florida. In the semifinals, the Rams faced Truett McConnell University (Ga.) and earned a 3-0 victory over the Bears to advance to the championship match of this year's tournament. Mobile claimed straight-set wins across the second, third, and fourth flights to earn the victory.
Aspen Adams and Layton Adams cruised 21-6, 21-16 as Mobile's No. 2 seed, while Jordan Wood and Emma Todd won from the fourth flight, 21-11, 21-10. In the third-seeded match, freshmen Emma Hampton and Gabby Sheffield secured a 21-13, 21-17 match win to help Mobile clinch the match overall.
Mobile then met SUN Conference foe Webber International University (Fla.) in the championship final later on Saturday, with the Rams eventually falling, 3-1. Mobile and Webber International split the first two matches, with Emma Hampton and Gabby Sheffield coming away with a 21-16, 21-15 victory from the third flight for Mobile's lone win of the match. The Warriors earned wins across the first, second, and fifth flights to seal the championship win.
Following the tournament, both Aspen Adams and Jordan Wood of Mobile were selected as 2024 AVCA All-Tournament selections for their play throughout the weekend.

Mobile finishes the 2024 season with a 12-13 overall record and as the runner-up of this year's AVCA Small College Beach Tournament in the NAIA Division. The Rams won five of the last seven matches played to end the year.
About the AVCA Small College Tournament
The AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Championships is the largest collegiate beach volleyball event in the country with 29 teams competing in 425 total matches during the championship weekend. The event brings together the top beach teams in the country from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and the NAIA. A champion is crowned in each division along with recognition of All-America/All-Tournament teams. The championships also include a Pairs Challenge event for participating teams.
