BRADENTON, Fla. - The University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team competed at the 2024 SUN Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament over the weekend in central Florida, eventually falling in the semifinals of the tournament on Saturday, Apr. 6 after a cinderella-esque run as the conference's No. 7 seed.
Mobile opened tournament play on Friday morning, Apr. 5 against the second-seeded Warriors of Webber International (Fla.), falling 3-0 and dropping to the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament. Later that evening, the Rams bounced back with an impressive 3-0 victory over Warner University (Fla.), eliminating the No. 3 seed of the tournament. Mobile saw wins across the second, third, and fourth flights to score the win, all coming in the form of 2-0 sweeps.
The following day, Mobile faced Loyola (La.) with a spot in the semifinals on the line. The Wolf Pack earned wins across the third and fifth-seeded matches of the quarterfinal matchup, but saw Mobile record wins in each of the remaining three matches to score a 3-2 victory. Aspen Adams and Layton Adams, Mobile's second-seeded pair, notched a 21-16, 21-18 win, while Jordan Wood and Emma Todd won 21-18, 21-15 from the fourth flight. The match-decider came from the top-seeded match in the lineup, with Lexi Gillette and Dazsha Dean eventually coming back to win in three sets, 18-21, 21-16, 18-16.
In the semifinals later on Saturday, Mobile once against met Webber International University. Aspen Adams and Layton Adams scored a three-set winner against Webber from the second flight, but Mobile saw the Warriors earn victories across the third, fourth, and fifth flights to win the match and eliminate the Rams from the tournament after a strong run. Webber International went on the claim the SUN Conference Beach Volleyball title after upsetting top seed Ave Maria University (Fla.) in the finals.
Following the weekend conference tourney, Mobile sees the overall record on the season move to 9-12.
Mobile is scheduled for just one remaining tournament this year, coming at the annual AVCA Small College Beach Tournament on Friday, Apr. 12 in Tavares Beach, Fla.
