Mobile Wins Conference Battle on Saturday

Rams Collect Second Win of the Week Against SSAC Opponent

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - On a windy Saturday afternoon at the Jungle, the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team hosted Middle Georgia State University on Sept. 28, eventually defeating the Knights 3-2 for the Rams' second consecutive win. Mobile defeated Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) 4-0 just days prior and improves to 3-1-0 in the SSAC this year. Additionally, Mobile improves the overall record this season to 5-3-1.

Rams Come Out on Top

Mobile opened the scoring early against the Knights on Saturday, with sophomore Andi Hughes recording her third goal of the season. Hughes' goal came after a foul call on Middle Georgia State which then saw Bailey Bronner serve a perfect pass to Hughes to collect the assist. From there, the Rams led 1-0 at the halftime whistle, with both teams recording three shots through the first 45 minutes.

Coming out of halftime, Mobile allowed Middle Georgia State to tie the match just three minutes after resumption of play. The Knights' equalizer came in the 48th minute, with energy shifting towards Middle Georgia State's bench. However, Mobile's Raegan Latiolais extinguished that newfound confidence for Middle Georgia State and gave the Rams the lead back with a header goal in the 67th minute. First-year Ram Latifha Pascall earned the assist on Latiolais' team-leading fifth goal of the year following a perfect pass from near midfield. Two minutes later, Mobile came up with a huge insurance goal following freshman Natalie Burt's second goal of the season. Latiolais earned the assist on Burt's goal, putting Mobile up, 3-1.

Middle Georgia State did manage to make things interesting late, scoring a late goal in the 85th minute. Mobile held off the late comeback, however, and took the match, 3-2. Both teams tallied 10 shots each in the match, taking one corner kick a piece. Raegan Latiolais paced the Mobile offense with four shots, recording one goal and one assist in the victory. Mobile starting goalkeeper Ebba Elweroth picked up the win and recorded three saves on the afternoon. 

Two More SSAC Matches at Home

Mobile is set to return to action on Thursday evening, Oct. 3 at the Jungle, hosting the SSAC's newest member Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Ga.) at 5:00 p.m. CT. Two days later, the Rams will host Thomas University (Ga.) at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon.
