Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss of 2024 Season

Rams Shut Out by Bethel in Labor Day Matchup

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - Two days after a 3-1 win over LSU-Alexandria (La.) in the home opener at the Jungle, the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team was handed the first loss of the 2024 season by former SSAC foe Bethel University (Tenn.) on Monday afternoon, Sept. 2. The Rams were shutout at home 3-0 by the Wildcats during the Labor Day match, seeing the overall record fall to 2-1-1 on the year.

Bethel managed the first goal of the match in just the seventh minute, later going up 2-0 on Mobile in the 15th minute. In the 33rd minute of the match, Bethel took a 3-0 lead over the Rams. The three goals in the first half was enough as neither team recorded a score in the final 45 minutes.

In total, Bethel managed 19 shots, with seven being recorded on-goal. Mobile only mustered three shots total in the full 90 minutes, with just one being on target. Mobile's lone shot-on-goal came from Skylar Bennett, who tallied 39 minutes of playing time from off the bench.

Mobile starting goalkeeper Ebba Elweroth did not record a save throughout the first half and was eventually replaced by newcomer Sarah Polk in the second half. Polk picked up four saves in her Mobile debut, while holding the Wildcats off the scoreboard.

Playing Third-Straight at the Jungle

The Rams are scheduled for another non-conference matchup at home this upcoming weekend, coming against Xavier University of Louisiana on Saturday evening, Sept. 7. Saturday's matchup is slated to kick off at 5:00 p.m. CT.
