Mobile Blanked by Xavier (La.) on Saturday Evening

Rams Shut Out at Home for Second Consecutive Match

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team hosted Xavier University of Louisiana on Saturday evening, Sept. 7, eventually falling to the Gold Nuggets 4-0 in the first-ever match between the two programs. The shutout defeat comes just five days after Mobile lost 3-0 to Bethel University (Tenn.) on Labor Day as the overall record falls to 2-2-1 on the season.

Not much went right for the Rams on Saturday against Xavier, recording just one shot-on-goal in six attempts on the evening. Meanwhile, Xavier produced eight shots, with all four shots on target finding the net. For the second-straight match, Mobile Head Coach Brian Person was forced to make a change at goalie following halftime, which saw Mobile trail, 3-0. Ebba Elweroth got the start in net for Mobile against the Gold Nuggets, with Sarah Polk playing the back 45 minutes. Raegan Latiolais eventually recorded Mobile's lone shot-on-goal on Saturday.

Up 2-0 in the first half, Xavier's third goal of the half was recorded as an own goal against the Rams. Later in the second half, Xavier notched an insurance goal to go up 4-nil over Mobile. From there, the match went final. In the loss, the Rams were called for 15 fouls compared to Xavier's four. Xavier took three corners in the winning effort, holding Mobile to just two.

Looking Ahead

Following two shutout defeats at home, Mobile is set to hit the road to Lawrenceville, Ga. for the next match on the schedule. The Rams are set to battle Georgia Gwinnett on Thursday, Sept. 12, with the Grizzlies currently receiving votes for the NAIA Women's Soccer Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Thursday's match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
