MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - University of Mobile Women's Basketball collected its ninth consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 11, defeating Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) 83-73 in central Georgia to improve to 14-3 overall on the season. The 10-point win was highlighted by Braylee McMath's historic performance, where the senior point guard broke the University of Mobile Women's Basketball program single-game scoring record.
McMath Shines in Mobile's Ninth-Straight Win
Braylee McMath was lights out across all four quarters against the Barons of Brewton-Parker on Saturday, finishing with an outstanding and record-breaking 47 points in the win. McMath finished 14-for-25 from the field, including an impressive 6-of-11 from beyond the arc for three. Additionally, she dominated at the free-throw line, making 13-of-16 attempts. Her contributions extended beyond scoring, as she added four steals, three assists, and one rebound in her 37 minutes on the court.
McMath's 47 points sets the new single-game scoring record for the University of Mobile Women's Basketball program, breaking the previous bests of 42 points by Starla Daggan in 2016 and 40 points set by Gerica Johnson in 2009. The 47 points also ranks second all-time across the entire Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC).
Across Saturday's game, the Rams set the tone early, taking a narrow 22-20 lead after the first quarter and building on it with a strong second quarter, outscoring Brewton-Parker, 25-15. Despite a push from the home team in the third quarter, the Rams held their ground, maintaining a comfortable lead throughout. Eventually, clutch free throws late in the fourth put the game away and Mobile walked away with the 10-point win.
McMath received support from MacKenzie White, who notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Miriam Oldacre, who added 15 points. No other player managed more the four points on Mobile's side as the team shot just 36.9% against Brewton-Parker. On the defensive side, Mobile forced 19 turnovers and collected 14 steals, proving crucial in securing the win as the Rams managed 21 points off Brewton-Parker giveaways..
While improving to 14-3 overall on the year, Mobile moves to 6-2 in conference play in the SSAC.
