H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team extended the current winning streak to 10 games on Thursday evening, Jan. 16, dominating Middle Georgia State 80-54 in the first game played in Pharr Gymnasium since Dec. 14. The win advances Mobile's overall record to 15-3 on the year, while the SSAC record improves to 7-2. Additionally, the Rams currently sit second in the SSAC Women's Basketball standings.
Mobile's Starting Five Lead the Way
After a slow start offensively for both sides, Mobile managed a 15-10 edge over the Knights following the first quarter, later adding 18 points in the second to close out the half with 33 points. For Middle Georgia State, the Knights concluded the first half with just 21 points, making just eight total shots from the field.
Mobile began to run away with things in the second half, particularly in the third quarter where the Rams outscored Middle Georgia State, 29-14. The offense fired on all cylinders during the back 20 minutes, ending the night with 18 fourth-quarter points to win by 26.
Reigning NAIA National Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week Braylee McMath led the charge, scoring 21 points and sinking four three-pointers. MacKenzie White filled up the box score against Middle Georgia State, contributing another double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, adding three steals and two blocks to her stat line. The double-double is White's fifth of the season.
Alanna Donaldson and Miriam Oldacre added 11 points each, while Halle Verkerk posted a strong 11 points and eight rebounds in the 26-point victory. All five of Mobile's starters combined for 69 of the 80 points scored on Thursday.
Defensively, Mobile was tenacious, forcing 23 turnovers and securing 14 steals. The Rams' bench also played a significant role, contributing 11 points and 12 rebounds. Overall, Mobile out-rebounded the Knights 41-38 and finished with a 40% shooting line as a team.
Looking Ahead
The Rams aim to keep their momentum rolling as they prepare for their next matchup on the schedule, coming on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18 against Point University (Ga.). Saturday's game in Pharr Gymnasium is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
