Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak to 12 Games

Rams Manage 10-Point Victory Over Dillard (La.) on Monday

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team continued its strong run on Monday, Jan. 27, notching the 12th consecutive win with a thrilling 63-53 victory over Dillard University (La.) in a rare Monday night game in Pharr Gymnasium. Mobile improves the overall record to 17-3 this season following the non-conference win over the Bleu Devils, with the last loss on the season coming on Nov. 23. Additionally, Mobile sweeps Dillard across two games played during the campaign.

Strong Team Performance Powers Mobile to Victory

Despite a slow first quarter for both sides, which saw just 10 points scored for each team, Mobile took the lead in the second quarter by outscoring Dillard, 23-20. Mobile went to the halftime break with a 33-30 advantage, while holding the Bleu Devils to a sub-45% shooting mark and just 10 shots made from the floor. Meanwhile, Mobile made 12 shots from the field in the first half, eight alone coming in the second quarter.

The Rams maintained their momentum in the third quarter, delivering an impressive 18-4 run that stretched their lead to double digits. Key defensive stops and rebounding dominance proved instrumental during the third. Dillard attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter but was unable to overcome Mobile's defensive intensity and timely scoring as the third quarter eventually proved to be the difference maker on Monday.

Mobile shot an efficient 43.5% (20-of-46) from the field and 75% (18-of-24) from the free-throw line across the victory over Dillard, compared to Dillard's low 32.8% shooting mark. The Rams' defense forced 18 turnovers, converting them into 20 points, with the team recording nine steals.

Alanna Donaldson led the charge with a game-high 20 points, shooting an impressive 61.5% from the field (8-of-13), including two crucial three-pointers. She also added three assists and two rebounds. Braylee McMath added 13 points and pulled down three rebounds, while Miriam Oldacre and Halle Verkerk each tallied 10 points. Verkerk was particularly efficient, converting all six of her free throws and contributing eight rebounds and four steals. MacKenzie White and Verd Fontaine were also solid defensively, with White grabbing seven boards and recording two blocks, and Fontaine ending her night with six rebounds and three steals. Both players combined for 10 points in the win.

Non-Conference Action Continues

The Rams will look to continue their impressive stretch of wins on Thursday evening, Jan. 30 with a non-conference road game against Stillman College (Ala.). Thursday's game is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. CT in Tuscaloosa, Ala. as Mobile looks to make it 13-straight victories.
