JACOBS FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Baseball team delivered a commanding performance in the series finale against John Melvin University (La.) on Saturday, Feb. 22, cruising to a dominant 14-1 win at Jacobs Field to secure the weekend sweep. Saturday's win comes after Mobile grabbed a pair of wins on Friday against the Millers, winning two seven-inning games 4-3 and 18-4.
The Rams are now 9-7 overall on the year following the weekend sweep.
Mobile Scores in Every Inning
The Rams set the tone early, plating two runs in the first inning before exploding for four more in the second. They maintained steady offensive production throughout the game, scoring in every inning except the seventh after the Mobile pitching staff secured a run-rule victory. Mobile's five-run sixth inning sealed the rout.
Mobile's offense was fueled by a well-rounded team effort, tallying 12 hits and taking advantage of six free passes issued by John Melvin pitching. Outfielders Peyton Bell and Zion Taylor led the charge, with Bell going 2-for-4 with three RBIs from the leadoff spot and Taylor adding a 3-for-5 performance with three RBIs and a stolen base. Sam Bowman contributed a clutch two-run double, finishing with three hits of his own.
On the mound, Ethan McPherson was stellar, tossing five innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. He struck out five batters. Adrian Roman pitched two innings from out of the bullpen, keeping the Millers off the board and striking out one. The visiting team's defensive struggles also played a role, as they committed four costly errors in the onslaught.
Rams Head to USSA
Mobile will return to action on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 25, facing off with United States Sports Academy (Ala.) in Daphne, Ala. Next week's game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
