DAPHNE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Baseball team won the 10th game of the season on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 25, defeating United States Sports Academy (Ala.) in a non-divisional road game, 12-6. The win extends the Rams' win streak to four games, improving the overall record to 10-7 on the year. First-year Ram Zion Taylor highlighted the performance, recording three home runs in the victory.
Rams Power Past USSA Eagles
The Rams wasted no time getting on the scoreboard on Tuesday, plating two runs in the top of the first inning. Mobile then added eight runs across innings three through six, while scoring a pair of insurance runs in the ninth frame. Mobile displayed offensive firepower in the dominant 12-6 victory over USSA, totaling 14 hits and nine extra-base hits against the Eagles' pitching staff.
The Rams belted six home runs alone in the win, three coming off the bat of right fielder Zion Taylor, who finished Tuesday with a whopping seven RBIs. Taylor finished 3-for-4 with his three homers and seven runs driven in, scoring three runs himself off the long ball. Taylor is currently batting .364 in his first season with Mobile, leading the team with 25 RBIs and five home runs.
Peyton Bell, Alex McWhorter, and Colton Wood each joined Taylor in leaving the yard against USSA, while Cameron Brock tallied a pair of doubles in the win. Brock added three steals to his strong 4-for-4 performance at the plate. He crossed the plate all four times he was on the base path.
On the mound, Caleb Logerwell was awarded the mid-week start, tossing five innings and four hits, two runs, while striking out four to earn the win. Ben Buxton, the returning Landon Moore, and Isidro Jimenez then combined for four innings out of the bullpen, giving up six hits and four runs. Jimenez tossed two hitless and scoreless innings to end the game. He struck out four batters.
Return to Conference Action
Mobile hits the road for the first away conference series this season, traveling to Tifton, Ga. for a three-game set against Abraham-Baldwin Agricultural College (Ga.). The SSAC series is slated to begin on Friday, Feb. 28 with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. CT, with the series finale being scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, Mar. 1.
