UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Softball team secured a doubleheader sweep over Stillman College (Ala.) at the UM Softball Field on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 26, improving to 8-1 on the 2025 season. The Rams dominated in game one, ending the game early via the run-rule, while using a comeback in the second contest, eventually walking off the Tigers.
Game 1: Mobile 15, Stillman 1 - 5 Innings
Mobile wasted no time asserting dominance to begin Wednesday's doubleheader, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. The Rams plated five runs in the second inning, while adding nine more runs in the third, eventually finishing with 15 runs off 12 hits and eight walks in a five-inning victory. Meanwhile, Stillman managed just one run off two hits in the blowout loss.
Mobile's first three runs in game one came via bases-loaded walks in the second inning, followed by a two-run single from Lillie Lanham. The next inning, Lanham recorded an additional two-run single as the Rams' bats sparked with nine runs in the frame. Mobile's nine-run outburst in the third was highlighted by a grand slam from catcher Madilyn Sheffield. Both Lanham and Sheffield combined to finish 3-for-6 at the plate with eight RBIs.
In the pitcher's circle, Avery Harrell tossed a complete game, allowing just the two hits and one run. Harrell struck out five in her second victory from the rubber this year.
Game 2: Mobile 3, Stillman 2
The second game was a much tighter contest, with Mobile being kept off the scoreboard until the sixth inning. Stillman scored one run across the first and second innings, leading 2-0 for the majority of the game.
The Rams showed resilience in the second game, scratching off a run in the sixth to cut the deficit in half. In the bottom of the seventh, Mobile rallied and scored two runs to earn the walk-off victory and complete the sweep over the Tigers. Miah Simmons came up clutch with a deep drive to right-center field to win the game.
Both teams recorded seven hits each in game two, with Simmons being the only Ram to finish with multiple hits. Madilyn Sheffield opened the scoring for the Rams in the sixth with an RBI single, while Lucy Spisto tied the game in the seventh with a RBI single of her own. Simmons then won the game with her hit, scoring Gracie Mitchell from third base.
In the pitcher's circle, Riley Smith only tossed 1 1/2 innings for her shortest start of the young season, being relieved by Katelynn Kempton from out of the bullpen. Kempton pitched the remainder of the game, holding the Tigers off the scoreboard and allowing just three hits. She struck out two and earned the win on the rubber.
