Head Coach Alison Sellers-Cook Records 600th-career win as Rams split doubleheader with UT-Southern

Softball moves to 9-2 ahead of a busy March schedule

UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile Softball team split their doubleheader series against conference opponents UT-Southern on Friday, February 28, bringing the program to a 9-2 record as they close out the month of February.

Game 1: Mobile 3, UT-Southern 0

In Game one, Mobile took the lead early and never looked back, putting two runs on the board in the first inning before adding on another in the second. Freshman Outfielders Gracie Mitchell and Lucy Spisto led the Rams with two stolen bases each with Mitchell also recording an RBI in the contest.

Junior pitcher Avery Harrell threw a complete game shutout against the Firehawks, moving her record on the mound this season to (3-0). Harrell recorded six strikeouts in the contest.


With the win over UT-Southern, Head Coach Alison Sellers-Cook achieved the 600th win of her coaching career! Celebrations with her players and coaching staff took place for a brief period in between games.

Game 2: Mobile 5, UT-Southern 8


It would be UT-Southern who would strike first in the second match of the doubleheader, taking a one run lead in the top of the second inning. Mobile would answer back with a run of their own in the bottom half on the inning before taking a three run lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mobile's lead would not last long as UT-Southern went on to score seven runs in the remaining innings to win the match and split the series with Mobile.

Outfielder Lucy Spisto was solid on offense for the Rams in game two as well as she added two more hits and RBIs to her total for the season.

Game 2 starting pitcher for Mobile, Riley Smith, pitched 4 1/3 innings before being replaced by Katelynn Kempton who would go on to receive the loss in the match
. Mobile's pitchers had thirteen combined hits against them with just two strikeouts against opposition batters.

Up Next for the Rams

The Mobile Softball team enters into a busy month in their schedule with 26 games set to be played in March. The Rams stay at home for their next contest against fellow SSAC members Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Saturday, March 1 at 1:00pm CT.
