H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team secured a hard-fought 70-62 victory over Thomas University (Ga.) on Tuesday evening, Feb. 4, improving the overall record to an outstanding 18-4 this year and 9-2 in SSAC action. The victory puts Mobile back in the win column after the Rams fell to Stillman College (Ala.) on the road last week. Despite last week's defeat, Mobile has claimed wins in 14 of the last 15 games played.
Win Breakdown
Thomas came out strong in the first quarter, taking an early lead and outscoring Mobile, 21-15. However, Mobile responded in the second quarter with a dominant 21-9 run, heading into halftime with a six-point advantage at 36-30. The second half saw both teams trading baskets, but Mobile maintained control with consistent scoring. The Rams extended their lead to as much as 14 points in the fourth quarter, ultimately sealing the victory by eight points.
Alanna Donaldson was the highlight for Mobile on Tuesday, leading all scorers with a career-best 30 points in the win. Donaldson made 13 of 22 shot attempts from the field, while adding four rebounds and one steal. In each of her last three games played, Donaldson has tallied over 20 points to pace the Rams offensively.
Braylee McMath followed Donaldson's career night with 18 points, adding three rebounds and two assists, including key free throws down the stretch. Meanwhile, MacKenzie White was a defensive wizard as the reigning SSAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year came away with six steals, while scoring 12 points in the process.
Overall, Mobile shot 38.1% from the field and an impressive 90% from the free-throw line. The Rams capitalized on turnovers, scoring 24 points off turnovers compared to Thomas' 12 points off giveaways.
Action Continues Thursday
Mobile will look to continue its strong season as the Rams prepare for their next matchup on Thursday evening, Feb. 6, coming against UT-Southern (Tenn.) in Pharr Gymnasium. Thursday's game is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. CT.
