Mobile Wins Four-Game Weekend Series Over Montreat; Uses Walk-Off in Finale on Saturday

Mobile Takes Three Games Over Montreat College at Jacobs Field

JACOBS FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Baseball team hosted Montreat College (N.C.) for a four-game series on Feb. 7-8 at Jacobs Field, winning three of the four games played to improve to 4-4 on the young 2025 season. Mobile swept the Cavaliers in a doubleheader on Friday, while splitting a DH on Saturday afternoon. The Rams used an exciting walk-off win in the nightcap to claim the series victory on the weekend. All four games against Montreat were seven-inning contests.

Game One: Mobile 5, Montreat 1

In the opener on Friday, Mobile secured a 5-1 victory over Montreat, with the pitching staff holding the Cavaliers to only five hits in the game. Montreat plated their lone run in the third inning. Andin Bolen made his second start as a Ram, tossing four innings with just three hits allowed in the winning performance, while picking up four strikeouts. Carson Ellis and Breyton Cornelius combined for three scoreless innings from out of the bullpen.

Meanwhile, Mobile's offense came up with an eight-hit performance, with Cameron Brock highlighting the game with three hits and three runs driven in. Brock tallied two doubles and a single in the victory, with designated hitter Breyton Cornelius, who finished 2-for-2 with a walk, being the runner to score off each hit. Bryce Eddington and Tyler Wabnitz provided late insurance, with Wabnitz recording his first home run as a Ram.

Game Two: Mobile 13, Montreat 4

Friday's nightcap saw the Mobile offense spark for 13 runs, six of which came in the third inning alone. Brock kept his strong performance at the plate rolling in game two, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and two walks in the blowout victory.

Bryce Eddington paced Mobile with a 3-for-4 line at the dish in Friday's second game, recording a pair of RBIs in the process. Tyler Wabnitz joined Brock with two hits in the victory. Mobile's bats put together a consistent performance as the Rams added four late insurance runs in the sixth inning to seal the win.

Trey Watson earned the win on the mound for the Rams, pitching five innings and finishing with a pair of strikeouts. Watson allowed three runs off six hits, throwing a total of 90 pitches. 

Game Three: Montreat 10, Mobile 8

On Saturday, the first game saw Montreat come out swinging, putting up four runs in the first inning. Mobile battled back, using a four-run second inning, but Montreat's consistent offensive output proved too much in the end. The Cavaliers tallied 12 hits, including four doubles, a triple, and a home run in a 10-8 win over the Rams.

For Mobile, the offensive efforts were led by Cameron Brock, who finished with multiple hits for the third consecutive game on the weekend. Brock tallied a 3-for-5 line, picking up one RBI. Additionally, Colton Wood came up with his first homer as a Ram in the loss. 

Game Four: Mobile 10, Montreat 9

The series finale on Saturday evening quickly became the most thrilling game of the entire series as the lead changed hands several times throughout the contest. Mobile opened the game with a two-run first inning, with Breyton Cornelius connecting on a line drive home run to center field for his first long ball of the season. Clint Smith then joined Cornelius with a his first homer as a Ram in the third inning to grab a 3-1 lead over the Cavaliers.

In the fourth inning, Montreat managed a four-run output to grab the lead briefly, but the Rams stormed back in the bottom half with three runs. Tyler Wabnitz highlighted the inning with a two-run homer, his second home run of the series. Clint Smith picked up his second RBI of the game with a double in the same frame.

From there, the lead swapped back and forth throughout each of the final three innings, with both teams recording blown saves. Mobile's Bryce Eddington hit an opposite field two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to grab the lead, but Montreat stormed back next frame to retake control. With Mobile trailing 9-8 in the final inning, Colton Wood came up clutch with a two-out, two-run single to right center field to earn the walk-off victory for the Rams.

Wood finished 2-for-3 at the plate, with the two runs driven in to clinch the win, while Eddington, Smith, Wabnitz, and Corneliuss all recorded two RBIs. Cameron Brock added another pair of hits in the series finale, finishing his weekend with a 10-for-14 performance across the four games, tallying seven RBIs and six runs scored.

SSAC Action Next

Mobile is scheduled for the third-straight home series to open the 2025 season next weekend, beginning the conference portion of the schedule in the process. The Rams will host Thomas University (Ga.) for a three-game series on Feb. 14-15, with the opener being set for 6:00 p.m. CT on Friday night at Jacobs Field.
