UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - For the second time this season, the University of Mobile Softball team faced off against the United States Sports University Eagles in a doubleheader, this time at the home of the Rams. Mobile played two great games against USSU earning two run rule victories on the afternoon.
Game One/6-Innings - Mobile 12, USSU 4
USSU would start off the game with their bats on fire, pushing 3 runs across home plate in the first inning. Mobile would respond back with 2 runs of their own in the second with Lillie Lanham scoring Gracie Mitchell on a sacrifice fly to left center and Madilyn Sheffield hitting a single through the left side to bring home Lucy Spisto. Katelynn Kempton would bring things back level in the third inning with a single up the middle to score Mitchell from third. Heather Knowles provided the lead for the Rams with a big 3 RBI homer to left field in the third inning. Mobile would eventually take an 8-4 lead into the sixth inning where they would proceed to push 4 more runs across home plate to run rule the Eagles and end game one with a final score of 12-4. Riley Smith picked up the win for Mobile after pitching a complete game with only two earned runs against her.
Game Two/5-Innings - Mobile 8, USSU 0
Game two of the doubleheader went entirely Mobile's way. Carleigh Bowden got the Rams on the board with a single to left field to bring home Bethany Dean. Dean would score again in the fourth inning off a wild pitch in which she ran in all the way from second base. Jenna Manning and Madison Medley would score back to back runs on ground outs to second to push the lead to 4-0. Katelynn Kempton would conclude the fourth inning scoring with a double that brought home Lucy Spisto. The fifth and final inning got started with Mobile scoring on a wild pitch before getting the final two runs on bases loaded walks. Avery Harrell earned the complete game shutout in the win.
Up Next for the Rams
The Rams are back at home this weekend with a doubleheader against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College scheduled for Friday at 1:00pm CT and a doubleheader against Point University scheduled for Saturday at 12:00pm CT. Mobile Softball is currently ranked #21 in the NAIA with an overall record of 18-7 with a 5-3 record in conference.
