UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - Not too long after the NAIA released the first Softball Top 25 Coaches' Poll of the season on March 5, the #22 Mobile Rams hosted the #6 Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies for an afternoon doubleheader. Despite it being a non-conference game, the two sides have become familiar foes, having played each other on numerous occasions over the past several seasons. Both teams would walk away at the end of the day with a win and a loss added to their records, while pitchers for both teams showcased their abilities to the fans in attendance.
Game one - Mobile 2, Georgia Gwinnet 1
Mobile found themselves ahead early on in the first inning with Miah Simmons hitting a single to left center that would score Megan McCartney from second base. Mobile's next batter, Breanna Green, would then get hit by a pitch which brought about a pitching change for the Grizzlies after facing just 6 batters. Mobile added on to their lead in the second and would hold on to it for the rest of the game despite a late scare in the seventh inning when the Grizzlies scored courtesy of a triple to deep center field. Avery Harrell would earn the win for Mobile after pitching a complete game and striking out 7 batters.
Game two - Mobile 0, Georgia Gwinnet 2
The Rams could not get things going on offense in game two as they were on the negative end of a perfect game by the Grizzlies' game two pitcher. In the loss, Mobile struck out in 14 of their 21 plate appearances. Mobile would fall behind in the top of the fifth inning when a double to right center field brought home the two runs for Georgia Gwinnett.
