GULF SHORES, Ala. - The University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team put together three impressive wins this weekend on the beach in Gulf Shores. In the two day tournament held March 7-8, the Rams faced off against three SUN Conference opponents from southern Florida. With these wins, the team moves to 10-0 on the season and remains as the only team in the SUN Conference without a loss so far.
Game One - Mobile 3, St. Thomas 2
In flight one, Mobile's Emma McPherson and Jenny Cope fell in three sets going 21-23, 21-18, 10-15. Dazsha Dean Middleton and Lexi Gillette lost 21-14, 21-19 from flight two. Mobile relied on wins from the lower three flights to secure victory as Emma Hampton and Gabby Sheffield won 21-14, 21-13 in flight three, while Emily Osborne and Emma Todd won flight four 21-16, 21-9. Flight five was won 21-6, 21-6 by Jaci Drinnon and Rachel Dunaway.
Game Two - Mobile 3, Ave Maria 2
Similar to game one, Mobile's win would come from the bottom three flights with Emma Hampton and Gabby Sheffield winning 21-11, 21-13 in flight three. Emily Osborne and Emma Todd won flight four 21-18, 21-13, and Jaci Drinnon and Rachel Dunaway would go three sets in flight five to give Mobile the win with scores of 21-9, 18-21, 15-11. The flight one and two pairings For Mobile both lost in very close 2 set matches.
Game Three - Mobile 5, Florida Memorial 0
Mobile would round out their time in Gulf Shores with a dominant 5-0 victory over the Lions with all five flight pairings winning in 2 sets. Top flight pair Lexi Gillette and Dazsha Dean Middleton won 21-17, 22-20. Jenny Cope and Emma McPherson won flight two 21-10, 21-18. Emma Hampton and Gabby Sheffield won the flight three spot 21-10, 21-7. Emily Osborne and Emma Todd dominated the fourth flight 21-7, 21-5, while the final pairing of Jaci Drinnon and Rachel Dunaway won 21-9, 21-6.
Up Next for the Rams
Mobile is set to play against cross-town rivals Spring Hill College on Tuesday, March 11th before returning to SUN Conference action on March 14th-15th in Babson Park, Florida.
