Angel Peterson (JR/Saraland, Ala.), Chelsea Kendall (SR/Huntsville, Ala.) Represent University of Mobile In Brookings South Dakota
BROOKINGS, SD. - Both Angel Peterson and Chelsea Kendall from the University of Mobile Women's Indoor Track & Field team qualified and earned their ticket to Brookings, South Dakota to compete in the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
Angel Peterson qualified in the high jump while Chelsea Kendall qualified in the long jump and were the only two athletes from UM to make it to Brookings. NAIA Nationals was held over the course of three days starting on Thursday, Mar. 5 and both Mobile athletes were scheduled to compete in their respective category on seperate days.
Results
Chelsea Kendall's long jump event came first for Mobile on Friday, Mar. 6. A total of 30 athletes from numerous different NAIA colleges from around the country competed in the women's long jump event at nationals. Kendall was placed in Flight 2 of three flights in the event and placed 9th out of 10 athletes in her flight.
Overall, Kendall placed 23rd with her mark of 5.18 meters (16 ft, 12 in).
On the next day, Angel Peterson competed against 20 other athletes in the women's high jump. Peterson currently holds the school record for women's high jump, a mark that she broke earlier this year. On Saturday, Mar. 7, Peterson finished 16th overall out of 21 athletes with a mark of 1.60m (5 ft, 3 in).
Although both Chelsea Kendall and Angel Peterson came up short from winning first place at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, both athletes should be very proud of their hard work and accomplishment in qualifying for NAIA Nationals.

Mobile Head Track & Field Coach Andy Canegitta was asked his thoughts on Angel's and Chelsea's successful year. Canegitta said, "I am very proud of Angel's and Chelsea's accomplishments at the NAIA Championship meet. They have worked extremely hard to get an opportunity to compete at the championship meet. Chelsea has progressed each year in the long jump from her high school days and Angel just started competing in the high jump a couple years ago".
