Rams Cruise To Victory Over Southeastern Baptist College

MOBILE SMACKS FIVE HOMERS IN ROUT OVER THE CHARGERS

 

MOBILE, Ala. - In their first game back at Jacobs Field since Feb. 27, the University of Mobile Baseball team hosted Southeastern Baptist College in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Mar. 16. The Chargers of Southeastern Baptist are out of Laurel, Miss. and are not members of the NAIA Division. They just recently started their baseball program.

In Tuesday evening's game, Mobile defeated Southeastern Baptist via run-rule in seven innings, 18-1, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings. The Rams out-hit the Chargers, 18-5 in the win and worked five walks while hitting five homers in the seven-inning game. 

Zachary Presnall (SR/Satsuma, Ala.) had a great night in the leadoff spot, finishing 3-3 while cranking a deep three-run home run (1) to left-center field. Presnall finished with four RBIs in the win. Trent Avery (SO/Mobile, AL) also collected a homer (4) in the victory, his team-leading fourth on the year. Avery finished with a line of 2-3, HR (4), 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R, BB.

Catcher Christian Waltman (SO/Mobile, AL) smacked a two-run homer (1) in the win, finishing 1-3 at the plate with his two RBIs. Brett Buck (JR/Bay Minette, AL) came in from off the bench and collected his first home run of the season in the win as well.

Mobile's designated hitter Tucker Musgrove (FR/Semmes, Ala.) went deep late in the game, driving an impressive opposite field shot to deep right-center field for his first collegiate home run. Following the win, Mobile Head Coach Jon Seymour presented Musgrove with the home run ball that he hit.

Overall, a total of 17 Rams took an official at-bat in tonight's blowout win, including pitchers Bailey Sellers (JR/Thorsby, AL) and Caleb Coffey (JR/Theodore, AL). In his first official collegiate at-bat, Caleb Coffey recorded a bloop RBI single for his first hit and run batted in.

Head Coach Jon Seymour started Kyle White (SO/Trinity, Fla.) on the mound. White pitched four innings, allowing just three hits while striking out seven. White was awarded the win. Brandon Brown (SO/Grand Bay, Ala.) pitched the remainder of the game, earning his first save on the season. Brown allowed one earned run and struck out five. 

  

With the blowout win over Southeastern Baptist, Mobile advances their overall record to 11-6 on the season and will begin SSAC Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Middle Georgia State College starting on Friday, Mar. 19 with a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. CT at Jacobs Field. Middle Georgia State currently ranks no. 22 in the country while the Rams are still currently ranked no. 20.
