Mobile Drops Rubber-Match Against Spring Hill at Hank Aaron Stadium
HANK AARON STADIUM, MOBILE, Ala. - In a 10-day span beginning back on Feb. 19 and ending on Feb. 28, crosstown rivals Mobile and Spring Hill played a total of five times with two games being played at Jacobs Field, two games being played at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile, Ala. and one game being played at Spring Hill College.
In the first weekend, Spring Hill managed to win two of three games. However, Mobile answered back by shutting out Spring Hill at Jacobs Field, 4-0 on Saturday. In the shutout victory, Mobile evened the series at two wins a piece as the Rams scored three runs in the 1st inning. Later in the 6th inning, Blake Roberts (JR/Semmes, AL) launched a home run (2) to give the Rams some insurance. Roberts finished 2-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, R.
In the end, Mobile did not need insurance runs as pitching was dominant. Bailey Sellers (JR/Thorsby, AL) got the start for Mobile and went four innings of two-hit, scoreless ball. He managed six strikeouts in the four innings pitched. Sellers was on a pitch-count and was relieved by Tucker Musgrove (FR/Semmes, Ala.) in the 5th inning.
Musgrove finished the game from out of the bullpen, pitching five innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine. Musgrove got the win, advancing his record to 3-0 on the year and lowering his ERA to 1.83.
Mobile and Spring Hill squared off in the rubber-match the next day on Sunday evening at Hank Aaron Stadium. Mobile's offense was hot early as they scored at least one run in each of the first four innings. The Rams had a 6-1 lead heading into the 5th inning.
However, Spring Hill exploded with seven runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning and never allowed Mobile to hit the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. Eventually, the Badgers scored one more run later in the game and took the series by winning the rubber-match, 9-6.
With Mobile losing the five-game series 3-2 to NCAA D-II opponent Spring Hill, the Rams' overall record now sits at 6-4 as they return to NAIA action and hit the road for the first time during the 2021 season next.
