University of Mobile Competitive Cheer Hosts 2024 Ram Showdown

Rams Take Home First and Second Place Finishes at Hosted Competition in Pharr Gymnasium

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - After opening the 2024 season just a couple of weeks ago at the Battle in the Big Easy in New Orleans, La., the University of Mobile Competitive Cheer team and first-year head coach Michael Lee hosted the 2024 Ram Showdown on Friday morning, Feb. 23, competing against two other NAIA schools in two separate competitions.

The day started with a three-team competition, featuring Mobile, Loyola University (La.), and Warner University (Fla.), with all three teams performing just one routine on the mat. Loyola kicked off the morning with a solid 74.21 score, eventually winning the opening competition, while being followed by Mobile who scored a 68.95. Warner brought up the rear with a 61.94 to place third overall. From there, Loyola traveled home to New Orleans, La. and Mobile faced Warner later on Friday afternoon in a dual.

In the afternoon dual, the Rams of Mobile performed better and broke into the 70s with a 71.36. Meanwhile, Warner faced issues with individual team members and saw their score in the dual versus Mobile drop to 52.68. Mobile ended the day with a first-place and second-place finish in the 2024 Ram Showdown.

Mobile's 71.36 is the highest score of the young 2024 season for the Rams, competing in just four scored competitions to date. Mobile is set to return to action on Friday, Mar. 8 in Marietta, Ga., participating in the Life University (Ga.) Classic. One day after the Life Classic, the Rams will defend their title in the 2024 SSAC Competitive Cheer Championship on Mar. 9 in Marietta.
