MARIETTA, Ga. - The University of Mobile Competitive Cheer program competed in two competitions at Life University (Ga.) in Marietta, Ga. over the weekend, with the Rams wrapping up the week with the 2024 SSAC Competitive Cheer Championship.
Mobile began the weekend competing in the Life Classic on Friday, Mar. 8, eventually placing fourth overall out of seven competing teams with a final score of 78.46. Mobile trailed the top three which consisted of the eventual winner UT-Southern (Tenn.), second-place finisher Florida Memorial, and third-place team and host school Life. One day later, the Rams defended their conference title from last season in the SSAC Competitive Cheer Championship.
In the SSAC Championship, Mobile placed fourth overall with a final score of 80.40, recording one of the best scores of the 2024 campaign in the process. In the preliminaries, the Rams tallied a score of 78.50 to open competition in fourth, later breaking into the 80s with an 81.10 in the final round, jumping Life for third. Scores from both rounds are then averaged out, which handed Mobile a fourth-place finish overall.
SSAC Competitive Cheer Awards
During the weekend, the SSAC released the 2024 SSAC Competitive Cheer Awards, with Mobile seeing several honored. A total of five Rams earned all-conference honors this year in the SSAC, the most to do so in several years, and six were named as SSAC All-Academic student-athletes. To earn SSAC All-Conference honors, athletes were judged on a variety of skills. To earn Barnes & Noble College All-Academic honors, student-athletes must be in their third semester or later and have a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Lawson Allo, Madison Cooley, Alex Godwin, Annsley Myers, and Naomi Shirley earned SSAC All-Conference selections this year for Mobile, with Cooley and Godwin also being named to the all-academic team. Joining Cooley and Godwin as all-academic selections were Malik Johnson, Ethan Morton, and Elisa Williams, and Alyssa Cherry. Morton was later named as Mobile's SSAC Champions of Character representative for displaying the best sportsmanship on and off the mat during the 2024 season.
