MOBILE, Ala. – Former University of Mobile baseball player Trey Watson has signed a professional contract with the Northern Colorado Owlz of the Pioneer League. Watson officially reported to the team on Monday and now looks to make his mark at the next level.
Watson played for the Rams from 2023 to 2025, originally joining the program as a catcher before making a full transition to the mound during the 2024 season. After moving to the mound, Watson became a reliable right-handed arm for Mobile, working both as a reliever and starter over his final two seasons.
As a senior, Watson threw 76.0 innings and recording a 6–3 record with a 5.33 ERA. He struck out 57 batters, walked just 28, and held opponents to a .285 average. He logged two complete games and had a season-high 8 strikeouts on February 28 against Abraham Baldwin.
In addition to his time in college, Watson gained summer league experience pitching for the Jackson Rockabillys of the Prospect League during the 2024 and 2025 offseasons. His performances there helped him earn a professional opportunity in one of Major League Baseball's Partner Leagues.
Watson expressed his gratitude for his time at Mobile, crediting the environment for shaping him both on and off the field.
"I cannot find the words to express my appreciation for the University of Mobile. The University of Mobile was a family environment that allowed me to grow in the game and in my faith. I learned so much invaluable information of the game during my time in Mobile, but more importantly, I learned how to grow my relationship with God." - Trey Watson
The Northern Colorado Owlz are based in Windsor, Colorado, and compete in the Pioneer League, a professional independent league recognized as an MLB Partner League.
